David G. Buerger, MD
David G. Buerger, MD was born and raised in Pittsburgh and returned home to practice Ophthalmic plastic surgery in the community. He graduated from Churchill High School in 1983 before attending Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. At Allegheny, Dr. Buerger graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude and was valedictorian of his class. He subsequently went to Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO where he served as Class President for four years.
Dr. Buerger returned to Pittsburgh for an internship at Mercy Hospital before being selected to attend Wills Eye Hospital (ranked 3rd best Eye Hospital in the country by US News and World Report) in Philadelphia, PA for his ophthalmology residency. Following his year as Chief Resident at Wills, he completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Joseph Flanagan, MD, Chief of Oculoplastic Surgery at Wills Eye Hospital.
In 1996, Dr. Buerger returned home again to Pittsburgh to care for patients as a physician and surgeon in Pittsburgh Oculoplastic Associates. Through the University of Pittsburgh, he serves as a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Buerger has published work in leading ophthalmic textbooks and journals. He is dedicated to providing the best treatment for disorders of the eyelids, tear ducts and orbit.
Dr. Buerger resides in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife, Sonya, and four children.
Ophthalmology
Paul Phillips, MD
Dr. Paul Phillips is a board-certified Ophthalmologist, specializing in corneal disease, cataracts and intraocular and corneal refractive procedures, such as LASIK and PRK. He obtained his B.S. in Biology at Stanford University, where he graduated with honors and played varsity soccer. He received his medical training at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Virginia. Dr. Phillips completed the highly regarded corneal fellowship at Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon with Dr. Mark Terry, a world pioneer in the field of endothelial corneal transplantation.
Along with multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and text books, Dr. Phillips has been an instructor in Anterior & Posterior Lamellar Keratoplasty Techniques and a presenter at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) meetings. In addition to his position here at Sightline, Dr. Phillips has also been an assistant professor at the University of Virginia, where he trained staff and residents to perform Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) and currently lectures to residents at the University of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology program.
Dr. Paul Phillips sees patients for anterior segment pathology and surgical care. Over the last decade Dr. Phillips has performed thousands of laser vision correction procedures in the form of LASIK and PRK and is one of few surgeons in the Pittsburgh region performing Phakic IOL implantations. He has performed over 20,000 cataract surgeries including thousands of specialty intraocular lens implantations to correct astigmatism and presbyopia. Dr. Phillips also performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) during cataract surgery to improve pressure control as well as Selective LASER Trabeculoplasties (SLT), and peripheral iridotomies for glaucoma. Additionally, he has performed over 10,000 YAG LASER capsulotomies to treat capsular fibrosis, or “after cataract,” formation.
As a cornea fellowship trained surgeon, Dr. Phillips is one of the busiest in Western Pennsylvania, specializing in performing corneal transplant procedures, including DMEK, DSAEK, and Penetrating Keratoplasty. He has performed over 1,000 of these surgeries while working at SightLine, along with many other corneal procedures to treat an array of pathologic conditions, including corneal crosslinking to treat keratoconus and corneal ectasias.
A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Paul Phillips and his wife, Gwen, live in Bradford Woods, PA with their two young sons, Leo and Alden, who both attend the North Allegheny School District. In his free time, Dr. Phillips enjoys fly fishing and coaching soccer.

Glenn A. Buterbaugh, MD
Dr. Buterbaugh is the President of the Hand & UpperEx Center and the Executive Director of the Western PA Surgery Center. A Pittsburgh native, he received his Medical Degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1979, and proceeded on to Syracuse, New York where he completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1984. He was Fellowship-trained in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Buterbaugh has been in private practice since 1985 and is on the medical staff at UPMC Passavant/Cranberry, UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Mercy Hospital, UPMC St. Margaret, and Allegheny General Hospital. His current academic appointment is Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
His various professional commitments include Chairman, Orthopaedic Product Standardization Committee, Allegheny General Hospital 1994-1995; member of the Orthopaedic Review Journal Editorial Board from 1991-1995; and Chief of Orthopaedics at UPMC Passavant from 1996-1998. He also serves as the Hand Consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins, and has previously served as a consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dr. Buterbaugh serves as a member of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, CCAC Advisory Board, and is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Sewickley Academy. He also serves on the board's Development Committee, Educational Committee, Finance Committee and Student Life Committee.

Kristin Buterbaugh, MD
Dr. Kristin L. Buterbaugh is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery, from shoulder to fingertips, in adults and children. She is trained in arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand along with microvascular surgery. Dr. Buterbaugh works with each of her patients to develop a collaborative treatment plan to address their individual goals.
Dr. Buterbaugh was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in the North Hills. She completed her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in American Studies. Following college, she was awarded a Gates Cambridge scholarship by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and earned an MPhil in the History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University in England, graduating with Distinction. She attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY where she graduated with honors. During her time in medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Gold humanism award.
Dr. Buterbaugh completed her Orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. During her residency, she participated in multiple research projects, presented at national meetings, and served as the administrative chief resident. Additionally, she traveled to the Dominican Republic to serve as a medical volunteer in orthopaedic surgery. Following residency, she completed fellowship training at the famed Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, where she pursued additional training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery under the mentorship of Dr. William B. Kleinman, Dr. Tom Fischer, and Dr. Jeffrey Greenberg.
Dr. Buterbaugh specializes in peripheral nerve surgery, arthritis surgery, traumatic conditions, and upper extremity reconstruction. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, trying new restaurants in Pittsburgh, and cheering on the Steelers.

Aaron Grand, MD
Dr. Grand joined the Hand & Shoulder Center in 2004. He graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine in 1996. He then successfully completed a Residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, where his training included extensive experience in microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery as well as soft-tissue reconstruction. This was followed by a fellowship in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Grand is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon with a Certificate in the subspecialty of Surgery of the Hand. He has been selected by Castle Connolly and “Pittsburgh Magazine” as a “Top Doctor” in the field of Hand Surgery in both 2021 and 2022.
Dr. Grand has published numerous articles and participates in fellow and resident education at the University of Pittsburgh. He recently traveled to La Paz, Bolivia as a volunteer surgeon with the Touching Hands Project and ReSurge International.
He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, the American Medical Association, and Hypnotherapists Union Local 472.

Bradley Palmer, MD
Dr. Bradley A. Palmer is an Orthopaedic Surgeon treating all aspects of the upper extremity in adults and children including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. Dr. Palmer is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons with a certificate of advanced qualifications in hand surgery. He has special interest and extensive experience in arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the shoulder and elbow, treatment of traumatic injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand, and nerve and microsurgery.
Dr. Palmer grew up in Peoria, IL. He received his undergraduate degree at University of Missouri-Columbia, then received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine/Chicago Medical School. He completed his orthopedic residency training at Allegheny General Hospital in 2011. Dr. Palmer completed his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at University of Rochester Medical Center in 2012. Dr. Palmer served as the Director of Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microsurgery at Allegheny Health Network from 2014-2022. He served as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics with Drexel University Medical School. Dr. Palmer has previously served as a hand surgery consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Soccer Club. Dr. Palmer has a number of medical publications and has authored book chapters for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Textbook of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. Dr. Palmer loves creating comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each of his patient’s specific needs.
Dr. Palmer enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is an avid outdoorsman, and enjoys playing guitar and martial arts.
Pain Management
David Provenzano, MD
Dr. David Provenzano is the President of Pain Diagnostics and Interventional Care. He received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and became a Phi Beta Kappa member. He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed a surgical internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a residency in anesthesiology at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. He completed a Pain Management Fellowship at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Dr. Provenzano has served as a principal investigator on multiple research studies and published numerous scientific articles. His research interests include neuromodulation and monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency lesioning. He has lectured at numerous international and national meetings on the management of acute and chronic pain. Furthermore, he serves as an external member of the Robert Morris University IRB. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia as the Treasurer and Pain Medicine and the North American Neuromodulation Society as the Secretary. In addition, he serves on the Educational Track Subcommittee on Pain Medicine for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has extensive interests and expertise in the conservative treatment of pain originating from the cervical and lumbar spine, neuromodulation and in the utilization of ultrasound for interventional pain management procedures.
Dr. Provenzano resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Pediatric Dentistry
Johnny Joseph, DMD
Dr. Johnny Joseph is a dynamic Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist with a mission to change and transform children's lives One Smile at a Time. Dr. Joseph is continuing and expanding on Dr. Elson's mission to reach more children and communities. He renamed the practice "Pediatric Dentistry Asleep". All treatment done in just one visit while asleep.
Dr. Joseph graduated from Stonehill College in Massachusetts, received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (UCONN). His passion for children's oral health led him to complete a specialty residency in pediatric dentistry at NYU Langone Health in New York City.
Dr. Joseph is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association.
Dr. Joseph's mission is to minimize barriers to access quality pediatric dental care. He is on faculty of The University of The West Indies, Jamaica. He is a Global Dental Ambassador, promoting oral health and free dental treatment to children. Dr. Joseph is a visiting faculty of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (UPMC). He is also a National Health Service Corps Scholar, treating children in underserved areas that would otherwise go without dental care.
He is fluent in French and conversational Spanish.
He loves spending time with his family and friends, exploring nature (hiking, sunbathing, kayaking,), attending and playing drums at his church, and mentoring youth.
